2023 Musical Production: A Jukebox Musical Featuring the music of the Indigo Girls

Save the Date: Friday, June 9, 7pm, Follen Sanctuary

The Music Program is excited to announce our spring musical production: the jukebox musical “Rites of Passage” featuring the music of the Indigo Girls. We are thrilled to launch the production! The Youth and Children’s Choirs will start rehearsals this week, and they enthusiastically invite community members of all ages to take part in an intergenerational choir of backup singers. Rehearsals for the intergenerational choir start April 30 after church.

How did we choose this show?
The Music Team, Music Director and Youth Choir members spent time talking through many options for the spring performance. After much listening–to music and to each other–the Indigo Girls Jukebox Musical rose to the top. It is called “Rites of Passage,” a nod to one of the Indigo Girls’ best-loved albums.
What is a jukebox musical?
It’s a staged production of well-known songs, often by a particular artist or band, with a plot interwoven to pull the story together.
Why the Indigo Girls?
All of the artists we considered had a social justice angle. The Youth Choir enthusiastically gravitated towards the Indigo Girls with their rich, driving, folk-rock harmonies and many well-loved tunes.
