What Is the Summer Experiment?
The Summer Experiment is a small-group experiment, summer duration only, gathering to talk about our individual paths to finding our better selves. What’s challenging us, and how can we give and receive gentle support from each other? Interested? Email Dave L., or find him by the tables at Coffee Hour.
The Longer Pitch
We’re all on our individual paths to finding our better selves. Maybe it’s deeply personal (reconnecting with a friendship that has withered), or painful (confronting our inner bias), or mundane (establishing a gym routine). None of these are more or less important than the other, and it’s probably the case that a little support, a little encouragement, would be helpful.
So let’s do an experiment: a small group of people that meets for just the summer, that is willing to open up a bit with what’s challenging us, and giving and receiving gentle support. Will we all engage with the same challenging question? That depends: if some of us are ready to do that, great, let’s do that. But some people may walk their own path, and that’s fine, too.
How Does This Differ from Covenant Groups?
Covenant groups are great, because it’s a place to practice sacred listening. But that means there isn’t room for a dialogue. Rather than being solution-focused, the goal is to be more introspective on what we’re thinking and what we’re feeling.
When/Where Details
- Every 3 weeks during the summer. That’s it — this deliberately ends at the end of the summer. Can only make it once? That’s fine! But the hope is to have 4 meetups in total.
- In person at Follen is strongly preferred (if needed, a zoom option may be available).
- 1 hour duration; we’re busy people during the summer, after all.
How Do I Join?
Let Dave know: he’ll be at the tables during Coffee Hour, or drop him an email. Scheduling will be done via email; the goal is to figure it out by Wednesday, June 17 in anticipation of the first meetup being the week of June 21.
