Prayer Vigil for George Floyd

Wednesday, 6-7pm, on Follen lawn and along Mass Ave, also on Facebook Live

Follen will unite with Lexington congregations of all religious backgrounds to offer this peaceful prayer vigil to honor the life of George Floyd (and Breonna Taylor, and Tony McDade, and so many others) and protest the scourge of white supremacy and racism in our nation. We invite everyone to bring a candle, electric candle, flashlight, and/or a sign of faithful protest. At 6:30 precisely, we will ring our church bells along with many other congregations, and we invite everyone who is able to take a knee. We will ring the bells again after 8 minutes and 46 seconds, the amount of time the officer kneeled on George Floyd’s neck even as he said he could not breathe.

Together we will affirm: Black Lives Matter.

We will gather on Follen’s lawn and down the sidewalks on Mass Ave. on either side. The building remains closed. Social distance must be observed and masks must be worn. We invite families to stand together. Any minors should attend with a guardian if possible, or have explicit parental permission to attend.
