October Share the Plate: Partner Church

This week’s Share the Plate will aid Ukraine and our partner church in Transylvania, Romania. Ukraine is fighting for its existence. The effects of the war have reached beyond Ukraine’s borders to neighboring nations. Romania borders Ukraine, and inflation caused by the war has doubled its cost of living. Therefore, our donations to our partner church in Romania are needed more than ever.

Thanks to our earlier donations and Follen’s Partner Church Committee (PCC) soup sales after Sunday services, Follen has given significant help to both causes. In September, PCC voted to send $5,000 to the Unitarian Church of Transylvania, which uses such donations to provide humanitarian supplies to Ukraine. This brings Follen’s overall donations to Ukraine to approximately $30,000 since April 2022.

Half of the donations from PCC’s October Share the Plate will buy additional supplies for Ukraine. These humanitarian supplies are particularly helpful during winter. Russia bombs infrastructure each winter to cut off electricity and heat in Ukrainian homes. This is another reason why our partner church congregation in Alsofelsozsentmihaly also donates what it can each month to Ukraine, despite its own hardships.

If you cannot attend Follen this Sunday, please know that you can write a donation check and mail it to Follen or electronically transmit your donation to Follen throughout October and beyond. Please write “STP – Partner Church” in the memo line of your check or the appropriate place in your electronic donation.
