Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement, begins this evening at sundown and is the holiest day of the year in Judaism. It marks the final day of the 10 days of repentance, during which believers pray for forgiveness for sins against God and fellow humans.
In honor of Yom Kippur, the youth choir will sing “Hine Ma Tov.” The text for the song is from Psalm 133:1 in the Hebrew Bible. It celebrates joy, peace, and people gathering together in harmony. This is a popular folk song and is frequently sung during Jewish worship services, Shabbat gatherings, and more.
“Dobriden” — Yiddish for “good day” — is a traditional Jewish Klezmer tune or ritual dawn song. This specific version was famously documented by the pioneering Soviet Jewish ethnomusicologist Moishe Beregovski, who collected and recorded it from a performer or singer named Gurevich in Odessa in 1920.
