Music Program Update – June 3, 2020
Gordon Hardy

Dear Follen Community,

We’re writing with a brief update on Follen’s music program. Those who have attended our virtual Zoom worship services have heard our music professionals and volunteers record or play wonderful live music for these gatherings. When our Zoom summer services begin on June 21, pianist Shaylor Lindsey will provide music, as she has in the past.

Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic makes it very likely that our fall and winter services will continue to be virtual until the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the UUA, and our Safe Congregation Committee have all determined that it is safe for us to return to our beloved sanctuary. With that in mind, the Human Resources committee and the Worship and Music Action Team (WMAT) are starting a search for a part-time music coordinator who will shape our music for 2020-2021. That person will work with our worship staff, musicians and choirs to create the best possible music experience for all.

This month, we will hold listening sessions for our choirs and musicians, inviting participants and parents to share their own ideas for making music. From there, will create a job description and begin our search. We are pleased to say that several highly qualified people have already expressed interest in the position.

The pandemic makes it impossible to plan our music beyond the coming year. However, we will continue to seek opportunities to gather feedback from you, to inform our search for a permanent music director when it is safe to gather together again.

With best wishes,
Gordon Hardy
