Food Insecurity

SNAP logoThere are more that 1 million people in Mass. who rely on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits, which are set to expire on November 1. Without this vital resource, many families in our community are facing urgent food insecurity.

If you are food insecure, or know someone who needs help getting food on the table, check out this Quick Local Food Resources Guide published by Food Link.

Food pantries usually have lists of their most in-demand items. See what your community needs most, and remember that cash donations go a long way.

Food Drive: Neighbors Supporting Neighbors

Follen is launching a food drive to help stock local food pantries and support our neighbors. Please bring nonperishable items—cereal, granola bars, soups, canned fruits & veggies, rice, beans, peanut butter, condiments, baking supplies, and pasta—to the labeled collection bins by the Community Center coat closet beginning this Sunday. If you would like to give financially, we invite you to give to the United Response Fund.

Follen Resources

promotional image for caring cooksWe can help those in our community who will lose their food stamps by donating to the Minister’s Discretionary Fund and/or by supporting the Caring Cooks program (which leaves free healthy entrees in the Community Center kitchen freezer).

Both Rev. Carolyn Patierno and intern Nate Clark have access to the Minister’s Discretionary Fund. If you are experiencing a personal emergency, all you need do is speak to them.
