Wendy from the Follen Library Team recommends these books of poetry:

• How Lovely the Ruins: Inspirational Poems and Words for Difficult Times (2017) is a collection that offers readers inspiration in times of turmoil and divisiveness. The volume opens with a beautiful foreword by Elizabeth Alexander, whose poem “Praise Song for the Day” was delivered at the first inauguration of President Barack Obama. The editors write, “In times of personal hardship or collective anxiety, words have the power to provide comfort, meaning and hope.”
• The Soul Is Here for Its Own Joy: Sacred Poems from Many Cultures (1995) is Robert Bly’s anthology of spiritual poems: “the result of over a decade of personal research celebrating the ongoing role of the divine in literature.”
• The Language of Spring: Poems for the Season of Renewal (2003) brings together 40 poems that celebrate spring in all its guises: ecstatic, contemplative, deceptive, seductive, poignant. The volume ranges from the classic tributes of William Shakespeare and Emily Dickinson to such contemporary visions as Jane Kenyon’s “Spring Changes.”
