This week’s topic is mindfulness.
From the classic Wherever You Go, There You Are (Kabat-Zinn), to A Year of Spiritual Companionship: 52 Weeks of Wisdom for a Life of Gratitude, Balance and Happiness (Kernion), to Not Quite Nirvana: A Skeptic’s Journey to Mindfulness (Neumann), these authors, and many more, explore the myriad ways to practice mindfulness.
- The bestseller Wherever You Go, There You Are introduces the reader to the basics of meditation and mindfulness. Though first published in 1994, this book remains a favorite, and Kabat-Zinn has provided updates that reflect new research and practices.
- Mindfulness is just one of several practices in A Year of Spiritual Companionship that promote healthy ways to pause, contemplate, and appreciate oneself and others in weekly, digestible sections.
- The author Rachel Neumann – Thich Nhat Hanh’s editor – came to mindfulness reluctantly. In Not Quite Nirvana, she tells vivid stories about the ups and downs of her life and how three primary mindfulness practices became important ways for her to mature and find relief from life’s stresses.
