The Eliza Cabot Follen Library, tucked in next to the Community Center, has a book for you!

Leslie from the Follen Library Team recommends three books on the topic end of life:

  • A Beginner’s Guide to the End: Practical Advice for Living Life and Facing Death by BJ Miller is a “clear-eyed and big-hearted action plan for approaching the end of life, written to help readers feel more in control of an experience that so often seems anything but controllable.”
  • Advice for Future Corpses (and Those Who Love Them) by the writer, palliative-care nurse, and Zen Buddhist Sallie Tisdale is “a wild and brilliantly deceptive book. It is a putative guide to what happens to the body as it dies and directly after — and how to care for it… in its loving, fierce specificity, this book on how to die is also a blessedly saccharine-free guide for how to live.”
  • Finish Strong: Putting YOUR Priorities First at Life’s End by Barbara Coombs Lee is “for those of us who want an end-of-life experience to match the life we’ve enjoyed — defined by love, purpose, and agency. Written by a former nurse, physician assistant and attorney who became a leading advocate for end-of-life options, this book… will help prepare for latter days that retain the purpose, grace and dignity you’ve always valued.”

Find these titles in our online catalog or on the shelf in the Follen Library.
