The Follen Library Team recommends three of our many books within the genre of biography and memoir.

• The Klansman’s Son: My Journey from White Nationalism to Antiracism chronicles the journey of author Adrianne Black from being groomed to lead the white nationalist movement (her godfather was David Duke) to becoming an advocate for antiracism. Born into a family deeply entrenched in white supremacy, Adrianne’s transformation offers a unique perspective on the rise of white nationalism and the challenges of leaving such ideologies behind.
• Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen is a powerful memoir by Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas, chronicling his life as an undocumented immigrant in the United States. Vargas’s candid and personal narrative explores themes of identity, belonging, and the psychological impact of living without legal status, a complicated reality faced by millions of undocumented individuals.
• Olivia Hoblitzelle’s memoir Ten Thousand Joys & Ten Thousand Sorrows : A Couple’s Journey Through Alzheimer’s explores the challenges of her husband’s decline with this terrible disease. Through her own personal lens, she gives an account of love, caregiving, and loss, as well as practical advice for navigating this difficult life journey with her husband.
