African-American Directors Film Series

The classic film canon is dominated by stories told by white people about white people. The film industry markets many films by black people about black people primarily to black markets, so people living in areas like Lexington tend to miss them.

The Follen Responds to Racism Team presents a series of five films directed by African Americans. Here’s your chance to catch some great movies you have missed – or you liked so much you’d like to see again. It may change how you view movies forever!

Free admission. Films are selected from slate.com’s list of the 50 greatest movies by black directors, a list compiled with input from 20 prominent filmmakers, critics and scholars. Check your Thursday “Follen For You” email news or the “Follen Members and Friends” Facebook page or email FRRFilms@follen.org to see what’s showing next.

Series runs Friday evenings, April 7 and 21, May 5 and 19, and June 2, all at 7:30 pm.
