Barracoon is our nonfiction choice for the Anti-Racism Book group. This fascinating book is a transcript of several interviews that anthropologist and author Zora Neal Hurston made in 1927. She was interviewing Cudjoe Lewis (born Oluale Kossola in Benin in 1841) one of the last surviving victims of the Middle Passage. He was captured in West Africa, transported to the US in 1860 on the ship Clotilda, and sold into slavery in Mobile, Alabama.
