About Follen’s Gun Violence Prevention Group

Gun Violence pictureGun violence—murders, suicides, and accidents—takes more than 30,000 American lives every year. More than 2,700 of them are children and teens. Follen’s Gun Violence Prevention Group is working to help battle this appalling problem at the local, state, and national level. We do this by keeping awareness and understanding high, and by rallying public support for specific legislation.

We support alternatives to violence though organizations such as Youth Jobs Coalition and the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute. In 2015, we sent a contingent of more than 60 Follen people to the Institute’s Mother’s Day Walk for Peace. We were pleased to be recognized as the faith community that contributed the largest amount to the Peace Institute through the walk.

Next year, we hope to host a presentation by the Lexington Police Department about gun safety. We also plan to explore solutions to injustices that minority groups face with regard to violence. To join the conversation, or for more information, contact Anne Grady at, or come to the Social Justice table at coffee hour.
